The Hard Part

Why Legal & Compliance Translation Is Different

Generic translation agencies don't survive contact with legal & compliance documents. Here's what makes this sector uniquely demanding.

Legal Certainty Starts with Precise Language

In legal contexts, every word carries consequence. "Shall" vs "may", "guarantee" vs "warranty", "rescission" vs "termination" — mistranslation creates legal ambiguity that courts and arbitrators exploit.

Tradução Juramentada is Not Optional

Brazilian courts, government agencies, and the Junta Comercial only accept translations produced by registered sworn translators (tradutores públicos). Using a non-registered translator invalidates the document.

Multi-Jurisdictional Legal Complexity

Brazil's Civil Code, CPC (Code of Civil Procedure), and corporate law differ substantially from US, UK, and EU counterparts. A translator unfamiliar with both legal systems creates parallel documents that describe different legal realities.

Court Filing Deadlines

Arbitration submission deadlines, court-ordered discovery windows, and notarial filing requirements don't accommodate slow translation. We maintain emergency legal translation capacity for 24h turnarounds.

We used STIB for interpretation in a $120M ICC arbitration between a US company and a Brazilian conglomerate. The interpreter's simultaneous performance was flawless — never once did the Brazilian attorneys challenge the accuracy. That's the standard you need at that level.

How We Work

Our Process

A structured workflow designed for sector-specific accuracy, compliance, and on-time delivery.

Step 1

Legal Document Review

We review document type, legal jurisdiction, intended submission target (court, notary, regulatory body, arbitration panel) and confirm whether Tradução Juramentada certification is required.

Step 2

Legal Specialist Assignment

Documents are assigned to a bilingual attorney-translator or sworn interpreter specializing in the relevant legal area — corporate law, arbitration, IP, labor, or compliance.

Step 3

Translation + Legal Verification

Translation is reviewed by a second bilingual legal professional for accuracy, legal equivalence, and terminology consistency — with particular attention to terms with no direct equivalent in the target jurisdiction.

Step 4

Sworn Certification & Apostille Coordination

If Tradução Juramentada is required, our JCESP-registered founder certifies the translation. If apostille is also needed, we coordinate the apostille process through the CNJ.

Legal & Compliance FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Specific answers about STIB Solutions' legal & compliance translation and interpretation capabilities.

Tradução Juramentada is a legally recognized translation produced by a sworn public translator registered with the Junta Comercial (commercial registry) of a Brazilian state. It is required when submitting foreign documents to Brazilian courts, government agencies, the Receita Federal, notary offices, or universities. STIB's founder is registered with the JCESP (Junta Comercial do Estado de São Paulo).
Yes. STIB has provided simultaneous and consecutive interpretation for international arbitration proceedings including ICC cases involving Brazilian parties, with hearing values exceeding $120M. Our legal interpreters are briefed on case terminology before hearings and can work in RSI (remote simultaneous interpretation) platforms including Interprefy and KUDO.
Yes. We regularly translate SPAs, shareholders' agreements, subscription agreements, and amendment documents for cross-border Brazilian M&A transactions. All M&A legal documents are handled under strict NDA by bilingual attorneys.
Yes. We can coordinate the full apostille process through the CNJ (National Council of Justice) for Brazilian documents, or advise on the apostille requirements of the destination country for foreign documents coming into Brazil. The typical sequence is: notarization → apostille → Tradução Juramentada.
Yes. Brazilian subsidiaries of US companies and Brazilian companies listed on US exchanges require FCPA compliance documentation in English — training materials, audit reports, third-party due diligence questionnaires, and compliance certifications. We translate these from Portuguese and localize FCPA compliance programs for Brazilian employees.
We use explanatory translation — the term is translated as closely as possible, followed by a translator's note explaining the legal concept in the target jurisdiction. For example, "Tradução Juramentada [Brazilian sworn certified translation, required for submission to courts and government agencies]". This is the standard approach in legal translation and is accepted by all major arbitration institutions.
